Seeking local school art groups - wanna sell your art at Indie South?

On May 4th we bring you A Lovely Spring Day, our annual Springtime market. We plan on incorporating even more interactive aspects to this show and are actively seeking demonstrators and artists to hold workshops.

We are also expanding our food cart selection, and accepting more non-profits promoting worthy causes.

As always, we want to encourage local school art groups to participate and be part of our show--if you know art teachers or art clubs that would like to have a booth, chances are, we will sponsor them, so spread the word!

Interested in discounted space for Indie South Fair's Spring Show?

Indie South Handmade Fair is a community arts and crafts market (formerly known as Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa). For our first show (Saturday, May 4th, 2013), we’d like to up the interaction with artists/crafters and participants by offering demos and workshops throughout the day.

This is where you come in. If your art or craft lends itself to a demonstration, by all means let us know if you’d be interested! In exchange for the demo, you will get a booth at the market for a reduced price.

If you have a special skill that translates well to a workshop, we’re looking for that too. Activities for both kids and adults are welcome. Get in touch with us and we will work out all the details, such as the supplies you’ll need, your availability, and if you would also like a booth at a discounted fee in order to sell your wares.

Depending on the level of interest among our artists, we would like to have about three demos, and about two or three workshops. We will also have volunteers to assist you. This is a new idea that we want to expand upon, so even if you’re not up for it this time, please consider it for future events.

Once we’ve got a schedule in place, we are planning to heavily promote this aspect of the fair. We will have programs listing all the artists, with a special section devoted to our demonstrators/teachers. This is your chance to reach out to the community and get to know people who may never have seen your art. We want to take the concept of an art market and evolve it into a daylong celebration of our creative community. Our goal goes beyond bringing in potential customers (though of course, that’s great too). We want to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to be creative and enjoy what art in Athens has to offer.

Please join us in this new endeavor!

Great write up in the Flagpole!

The Indie South Fair —an art and crafts market formerly at the Caledonia Lot and then Ben's Bikes parking lots—is moving to a new location near the corner of Prince Avenue and Chase Street.

Their new home is a large, paved, flat street-level lot that spans nearly a block. It has plenty of room for everything, plus level, super convenient parking.

Interactive Map online now for our new location

I know a lot of you have been asking about the new lot for our upcoming Indie South Fair.    The Street address is 660 North Chase Street, Athens, GA 30601.

I have created a little interactive map to show our new location, along with nearby hotels, food, coffee and shopping.   I hope you will find it helpful.

Exciting Announcement!!

Greetings and hello!

After listening to much feedback from vendors and attendees alike, and giving serious consideration to your concerns, we have decided to move our event to a new location. While we have enjoyed being at Ben's Bikes, we realize the limited visibility and especially the limited accessibility is a hindrance to some. It is important to us that everyone--young, old, and differently abled--feel welcome to enjoy Indie South Fair without concerns about steep hills and an uneven lot. We have been searching for a spot that fits our needs, and finally found a place that we are truly excited about. Located on Chase Street between Prince Avenue and Boulevard Avenue is a large, paved, flat lot that spans nearly a block and is not used on weekends. After some negotiation we have been granted permission to have our event there on Saturday, May 4th. We hope you'll want to be part of this new incarnation of our show--the deadline to apply is March 24th and applications are up on our website now.

We think you'll agree that this is a prime location for our festival. Prince Avenue is a major artery through Athens, and running parallel to it is Boulevard Avenue, a wide street that forms the backbone of the historic Boulevard neighborhood. This district is known for its lovely 19th to early 20th century homes, progressive community, and popular locally-owned restaurants and businesses. These two well-known streets are connected by Chase St., another heavily traveled road that conveniently connects to Loop 10 about a mile or so down from our location. This makes it fantastic for our local community as well as out-of-towners who may be traveling from surrounding areas to attend Indie South Fair. Also located about a mile from us is the Chase Street Warehouse district, which is a mixed use space housing many small businesses, residential lofts, and artists' studios.  Best of all, we can leave about half the lot empty for easy customer parking right next to our event!

We want to thank everyone who has stuck with us through all of our changes, especially the artists who have returned year after year no matter the location, your support is tremendous and greatly appreciated. We're glad you see this as an important event to our community, worth sustaining and evolving--we think so, too!

Look forward to seeing everyone in the Spring!

Indie South year 'round!

Indie South Fair is branching out into mini-events that will take place throughout the year. We want to give artists a chance to market their wares year round, not just during peak sales seasons. These events will be smaller-scale, which means less work for us and more affordable for artists!

Our first such happening was this past Valentine's Day at Little Kings Shuffle Club. We teamed up with the annual Zombie Prom to bring you a day of pampering, shopping, and more followed by the Zombie Prom. Cranking up at 9pm, the creatures of the night took over, with performances by Monsoon, The Humms, and The De Lux Interiors and an undead costume dance party!

At the Handmade Lovers~A Valentine's Affair we had local artists offering handmade gifts including cards and sweets, a caricature artist to render your likeness, tarot readings from Autumn Weaver to engage your intuition and cultivate your genius, plus services from the stylists at Honey's Salon and the make up professionals at M.A.C.  We had a great time and are sure to do it again next Valentine's Day.

Stay tuned for other such events in the Summer and Fall.
