A Lovely Spring Day - by Indie South Fair -Next Saturday!

Next Saturday!   Are you ready?

Indie South Fair presents "A Lovely Spring Day"; a  family (and doggie) friendly art and music festival located downtown Athens, Georgia

We'll have live music and workshops/demonstrations, kids craft area and games for the little ones.  

You'll also find the largest selection of handmade arts and crafts, from jewelry and fashion to paintings and photographs, cute stuff for your pets, plus vintage vendors sponsored by Eclectic Bazaar.  Plenty of family friendly fun, plan to spend your afternoon with us!

 

Meet Indie South Artist - Zack Wood

Zack Wood is an artist from Athens, GA. He studied manga (comics) in Japan at Kyoto Seika University, where he got the idea for the Monster Maker Workshop from a friend. He is also the artist and designer for Cafe Murder, an iPhone app/game that will be released June 1st. You can see his work at wzackw.com

Meet Indie South Artist - Kenneth Kase

My background is in sculpture and jewelry.  Currently I am working in mostly brass and some sterling silver. I bring these metals together with Czech glass beads.  Often the beads are antique uncirculated along with new and some vintage.  I like to play with line and color and see how things come together.  Currently I have have work in stores in Georgia and New York.

Each piece is designed and produced by me.  I make small runs of each design so each time I start a new run the colors may change.  So each time you see my work there will be some thing new and fresh to see.

Our first such happening was this past Valentine's Day at Little Kings Shuffle Club. We teamed up with the annual Zombie Prom to bring you a day of pampering, shopping, and more followed by the Zombie Prom. Cranking up at 9pm, the creatures of the night took over, with performances by Monsoon, The Humms, and The De Lux Interiors and an undead costume dance party!  

At the Handmade Lovers~A Valentine's Affair we had local artists offering handmade gifts including cards and sweets, a caricature artist to render your likeness, tarot readings from Autumn Weaver to engage your intuition and cultivate your genius, plus services from the stylists at Honey's Salon and the make up professionals at M.A.C.  We had a great time and are sure to do it again next Valentine's Day.

Meet Indie South Artist - Nail Butter

Christina Cole lives on a farm with more animals than she can count on her hands and feet, but she knows exactly what to wear and how to look around people in nearby nightlife hub Athens, Georgia (where she never orders a 'rusty nail'). Her firm beliefs in sustainability and a small ecological footprint are the reason Nail Butter© packages with recyclable containers and prints with eco-friendly inks, all locally. Christina is currently working on bringing fans of Nail Butter© a fabulous hair serum and a kaolin face mask, both measuring up to her standards for a beautiful planet.

Meet Indie South Artist - Ike & Co.

I just sort of happened into IKE & CO. I started making necklaces over Thanksgiving break a few years ago and before I knew it, I had 30 of them. And that was the beginning. 

Since then, I've learned a TREMENDOUS amount! I love this little shop of mine - from the shopping for beads and tools, designing, creating, listing, packaging and going to the post office (I live in a small town and I love my post office ladies!).

Just for Kids! Introducing Kindie South.

At Indie South Fair, we have several fun, creative activities for your kids to enjoy.

We’re happy to have the talented Keara O’Connor back with us this year. She’ll be teaching kids how to do sun prints. 

We’re also happy to announce that we will have a photo booth area! Kids are invited to decorate paper masks and crowns, and encouraged to pose with their friends for silly photos. Starting at 1:00 pm, we’ll have helpers to take pictures, but the photo booth will be open all day if parents want to take some pics of their own.

At 3:00 pm, we’ll have our first-ever Indie South Fair cupcake walk! (From 3:00 until we run out of cupcakes.)If you need a break from the sun or the crowd, head under the craft tent, where we’ll have coloring sheets, crayons, and other assorted craft materials to work with. This area will be open all day, from 11:00 to 7:00.

Meet Indie South Artist - Neogranny

Wooden souvenirs from a life well-travelled!

My work is very much based on my life. Each design is a small memento of the places I've been and the people I've known... a growing collection!

I am originally from Buffalo NY and have been fortunate to have lived in many places, settling into an old 60s ranch several years ago in North Carolina. All Neogranny goods are made in my Charlotte home with the fabulous support of my little girl Phoebe and my husband.

I am a photographer who loves to travel. I spent many years in CA and admire my lovely friends who bowl & dive & knit. I drink gobs of coffee and love to draw and design on my computer. I grew up with a rotary phone... shot film with my Pentax K-1000... remember the days before the Internet. My dad used to type on a blue Olivetti typewriter... I really want a 1950's Scout Camper... I draw from what I find meaningful.

Anyone who knows me can attest to my insatiable thrifting habits...flea markets, estate sales, GW (my personal slang for the Goodwill...I go 'G-dubbin' all the time), rummage sales, garage sales... you name it and I will be flipping a U-turn to pull over. Over the years, goodies have been getting harder to find, my collections have come and gone. They have been featured in my art, photographed, given away, lost in moves...

I love being inspired by the things I find and reproducing them for other people to connect with. There is a common link with the past and our collective memory. Most people I know have an affinity for old objects and wonder if we've lost something along the way of our incredibly fast techie world. 

I make little reminders of where we have all come from.

Meet Indie South Artist - Art for Bird Lovers, by Mike Merrit

Each one of my birdhouses is an expression of my love of form – some are curvaceous and reminiscent of musical instruments while others are geometric with very straight- forward lines. I use reclaimed barn metal on the roofs and weave the metal to make the sides of each birdhouse. Form goes hand-in-hand with function in all of my birdhouse designs. Each one is well ventilated and some have floors built into the interior to support nesting materials. I use only cedar and cypress woods so they are rot-resistant and weather proof. The entry holes are sized to attract eastern and western song birds but each birdhouse provides a safe and comfortable nesting place for most birds.

I will be bringing lots of unique designs to the show that I do not have in my Etsy Shop.

Meet Indie South Artist - Peter Loose

Growing up, Peter found school difficult, though he managed to finish school as well as college. Upon completing his education, he went to work for the state park service at the Athens Sandy Creek Nature Center in Georgia. He has lived in Georgia since. Frustration on the job led him to try his hand at expressing his feelings through paint. He found that acrylics gave him the color and texture he wanted and he began creating upbeat interpretations of the natural world, especially animals.

Now he paints on any surface — canvas, roofing shingles, boards, window screens and whatever he can get his hands on. He also builds animal-shaped birdhouses, and dulcimers painting them  with multiple layers. Sometimes he will also add texture with coffee beans, peanut shells and repetitive dots.

Peter’s art reflects his love of animals. He and his wife Sandy live with a menagerie of animals including dogs, chickens, pigs, goats, an iguana. Peter is probably best known for depicting his best buddy and Bongo the dog.

Loose’s work is in the permanent collection of Savannah’s Telfair Art Museum and was exhibited in Baltimore at the American Visionary Art Museum. His collectors and fans are far and wide.

Double Dutch Press is a local printmaking studio in the Normaltown neighborhood of Athens, Ga. Double Dutch provides a supervised self-service printmaking studio with press access and materials. We also teach educational beginning, intermediate, and advanced workshops in the following print methods: screen printing, plate lithography, intaglio, and relief printing. Double Dutch Press offers contract design and printing (editioning) services. Double Dutch also has a line of products for sale in the studio and at its official website . Meet Indie South Artist - Karen's Clothesline

     I am a native Georgian and a retired teacher.  I have a son, Shannon, and a daughter-in-law, Laura.  They are the parents of my two adorable grandchildren, Soleil and Granger.  

    As a child, I watched my mom,  Aunt Velma, Granny Pearl and Granny Lilla sew.  They made doll clothes, dresses for me and my little sister, and quilts.  I am sure this led to my lifelong fascination with fabric and sewing! 

     I make bibs, burp clothes, pillowcase dresses, play capes and potholders.  Hope to see you at the Indie South Fair!

Meet Indie South Artist: Dana Bour Pyrography

I started handpainting decorative gourds, antique glassware, vases, etyc. about 7 yrs ago. I recently started woodburning a wide variety of subject matter and portraits on a variety of natural woods, including walnut, birch, red oak, and cedar. The pieces are finished so as to make them suitable for both indoor and outdoor display.
